Sergy Taneyev, who died in 1915, was a major Russian composer of the second half of the 19th Century and the early 20th Century. His works are far too seldom heard, including his superb string quartets. Here, two of his great quartets are presented and played with authority and conviction by the California String Quartet.
The California String Quartet was founded in 2002 by members of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. They have performed throughout the U.S. and have collaborated with numerous contemporary composers.
