The Vespero della Beata Vergine completes the recording of the works contained in the collection of eight-voice Vespers published in 1675, which includes the Vespero delli 5 Laudate (Dynamic CDS 520) and the Vespero delle Domeniche (Dynamic CDS 7714). This is the ?rst complete recording of the trilogy, a masterpiece by Francesco Cavalli. In the Vespero della Beata Vergine, Francesco Cavalli proves himself a worthy heir of Claudio Monteverdi, using musical brush strokes to extraordinary effect and re?ecting an intense Counter-Reformation spirituality, in which the deepest religious feeling goes hand in hand with the stamp of Venetian splendour.
