Sibelius wrote around a hundred songs over a period of more than thirty years. Following on from the success of Volume 1 which was released earlier this year on Naxos (8570019), this CD contains more of Sibelius's songs including some world premi?�re recordings. The best of the songs are essentially nature pieces, dark-hued, vividly characterized, intensely melancholic and vocally demanding, which Sibelius considered to represent his \innermost self. Finnish duo Hannu Jurmu and Jouni Somero provide a winning interpretation of the music of their compatriot.
