CPO's second release to pay homage to Buxtehude in 2007 takes the form of a new release featuring fully set cantatas and motets of concerto character in interpretations by Roland Wilson's Capella Ducale - with most of these performances representing world recording premi?�res. In 1646 Franz Tunder, Buxtehude's predecessor, had begun performing sacred works during the L??beck Abendmusiken (sacred evening concerts) sponsored by the city's merchants. Buxtehude himself was very successful as a musical entrepreneur, even securing funding himself for these magnificent concerts. These performances quickly gained renown beyond L??beck's boundaries.
