Georg Kulenkampff (1898-1948) made music history when he performed the premiere of Robert Schumann's Violin Concerto in 1937.

The work was dedicated to Joseph Joachim, for whom Schumann had composed the Fantasie in C major, Op.131. After Schumann's attempted suicide and subsequent descent into madness, Joachim decided the Concerto, composed in the Autumn of 1853, was a product of Schumann's mental illness and declined to perform it publicly, retaining the manuscript until his death. The piece was effectively kept secret throughout the 19th Century. It was only in 1937 that the first premiere in Berlin was made possible by an agreement with Schumann's heirs.

The German premiere of the Sibelius Concerto under Furtwangler and the premiere of Richard Flury's Concerto are included in this 10 CD collection, which presents the first general overview on the art of this important German violinist.
